Revenue Licenses by State Part 1 of 5: Alabama to Georgia
A list of occupational licenses that should not exist in 10 states and DC

In my post earlier this week, I provided some details on revenue licenses. These are occupational licenses that can’t be justified on safety grounds—requirements include nothing more than paying a fee to the state. Here is a more detailed (as complete as possible) list of revenue licenses for 10 states and DC. I will also provide a master list of licensed occupations in each state if it is publicly available.
Word of caution: states often make mistakes when labeling licensed occupations. For example, interior designers are listed as a licensed occupation in the master list for Alabama below. A quick look at state law makes clear, however, that Alabama has a titling or certification law. In other words, the title of registered interior designer is protected by law, but it is not illegal in the state to work as an interior designer before meeting entry requirements.
